Leading Ladies Days will offer free mammograms PDF Print E-mail
What do women find when they attend a Leading Ladies Day for Breast Cancer Awareness?   A little TLC for their health.
Women may receive a mammogram (pre-registration is required; may be free based on eligibility) and free breast health information, paraffin dips, chair massage, refreshments and a lovely lavender rose.

Just as important, women also find a supporting cast of compassionate volunteers and Cape Fear Valley employees ready to assis them in taking a leading role in their own health.

Gayl Lee, co-owner of Truccos Nail& Cosmetic Salon in Fayetteville, is one of those compassionate volunteers.

"Everyone who works as Truccos has a family member who has been affected by cancer," says Gayl.

The Truccos team, including Gayl, Terri Tadlock, co-owner, Penny Palmer and Nikki Williams, provides pampering paraffin dips for each attendee, along with some kind words of support.

"It's our way of ministering to people in need, " she says.

Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation's Friends of the Cancer Center, the Sherri Arnold Graham Foundation and Cape Fear Valley Breast imaging join forces to sponsor the screenings at Cape Fear Valley Diagnostic Center.

During the most recent Leading Ladies' Day held on July 14, 25 women received mammograms.  Fifteen who met the eligibility guidelines received mammograms at no cost, thanks to a generous grant from the Friends of the Cancer Center.

Three Leading Ladies' Days have been held this year.  More than 74 women have received mammograms through the events, 50 of whom received mammograms at no cost based on their eligibility.

This year, the Friends of the Cancer Center gave $4,121.50 in grants to cover the cost of mammograms performed during the Leading Ladies' Days.

To learn how to schedule a mammogram for the next Leading Ladies' Day on Saturday, October 6, from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a. m. at the Cape Fear Valley Diagnostic Center, please call the Sherri Arnold Graham Foundation at 323-5774.  For more information on how you can help support Leading Ladies' Days, please call the Friends of the Cancer Center at 606-7618.
